I’m a nursing student in a RN program. This book was one of our required books. The problem with this book is that it either needs a excellent editor, or just call it a reference book. I despised this book not because it is incomplete or because it does not have enough in rank, but that it has too much in rank. As a student in a nursing program, I feel that the best textbooks are those that quickly and pithily give you the in rank that you need to learn. This tome takes too long to say what it wants to say, includes in rank that is unnecessary, and is basically overwhelming.

It is fascinating to have this book because I am in a matter-of-fact nursing course, yet, my instructor uses this RN based textbook even as we were really required to get another one. Because she was pulling her questions and rationale from Whaley and Wong, I resolute to buy a used one to stay at her level. It is very detailed, and it may have too much in rank, even for an RN, but, I do appreciate the lay out of the in rank, diagrams, and nursing care plans that I was able to use. They would benefit from editing this book to just give what is needed, because you may get bored.
It may be simpler to become an RN after reading this. My suggestion is to buy a used one and keep it tender. Excellent for the library, it helped in my class, since my instructor insisted on using it, but a summary of the in rank would be better.

This book is simple to use, and full of in rank as well as illustrations. The CD is also very helpful. Highly not compulsory. for all nursing students.

This book is well-indexed — which any student can appreciate — and neatly edited. Further, the ATI Pediatric Nursing module relies on this nearly exclusively. If your school requires ATI, knowing this may help you to streamline your study a bit.
Pathophysiology, nursing interventions, and even nursing diagnoses are laid out in a logical manner — helpful for those dreaded care plans. The tables and graphs provided in this text are very helpful. So far this is my favorite text from all my courses.

This thick text is up-to-date, thorough, challenging, and fascinating. Graphics and call-out boxes are helpful. I delight in learning from this book. I recently studied the chapter on cardiac issues and found it simple to read and know. I occasionally have to look up words, e.g., recrudescent, but that is a excellent thing. I don’t find a lot of repetitive material or useless illustrations as in some other texts.
I will likely keep this book and continue to reference it after the class.
Criticism: the CD “NCLEX” questions are very weak. I am relying more on other sources such as Mary Ann Hogan’s NCLEX review book: Child Health Nursing. I wouldn’t go without Wong, but. A few times, I have found some unclear writing and once what looked like a data dump into a graphic (describing research consequences and sources in a muddled mess), but overall, the text is fantastic.
Other notes: Saunders NCLEX review book has many of the same materials as Wong (I have both texts).
