This book is OK. The authors are not your typical Ph. D types, which I reckon is a major mistake to just to start with. Bancroft and Gamble (editors) must have resolute to rely on their own gramatical skills (as different to paying an actual editor.) I reckon this was a critical mistake, because simple gramatical mistakes cause me to question the quality of the work in general. Some factual in rank is contradicted from tables to text references. Yikes!!! I sought after to buy Sheehan’s book, but I may possibly not afford that particular text. I know that Sheehan’s text is critical for HTL’s. Just to save my time and your time I am not going to highlight all the mistakes that I have experimental so far, but I must say that the 7th edition is not on my list of must reads. Compared to Sheehan, I would say this book is ‘watered down,’ focuses less on more obscure (but vital) techniques, references Sheehan alot, and lacks the volume of images I want to see. Histology is all about the staining quality… The section on fixation is disappointing to say the least. Anyway, it has some excellent points. I would classify the book as OK.

The shipper was very prompt and packaged the item very well. This book has lots of helpful in rank that is not covered in the general histology technical manuals. All glossy pages with wonderful color pictures. It reviews all aspects of histology to include; general, unique stains, immunohistochemistry, embedding, cold, cytology, electron microscopy, transmission microscopy and immunoflourescent techniques. My only complaint it that is pricey for a book that is five years ancient.

A copy of this insightful and helpful guide is essential to anyone interested in histochemical techniques. My copy will not collect dust.

This is the book of books for histologists… a virtual bible for the histotechnologist. The book covers everything from laboratory management, fixation (theoretical and matter-of-fact aspects), sectioning, staining, and an overall and detailed view of histology and immunohistochemistry. But, I found some sections to be more as summaries rather than desciptions. By that I mean, for instance the microtomy section (which deals with problems and solutions to those problems even as sectioning) lacks the details needed to correctly resolve a situation unless you are already a trained histologist. I would urge maybe adding more in rank with diagrams of the microtome, blade angles and the difference changing such angles would make (something that would be found in a BOR study guide or more like the microscopy section – Chapter 4 that perfectly diagrams and depicts all aspects of microscopy very well). Also, the recipes for some stains… unless someone was a trained histologist, some the solutions may be trying to make up from the way they are worded (i.e. amyloid (Congo Red) solution saturated in 80% alcohol … back of book tells what saturation top for Congo Red is in water but not alcohol… simple explanation within recipe itself would help making up such stains simpler, I judge.
