The Patients’ Book Books
Product Description
If you or someone you like is about to start a medical “journey,” you will do well to take by the side of The Patients’ Book as your guide.
These are scary times for patients. Recent reports and statistics about sickbay and drug “mishaps” are alarming. A modest estimate from the National Institute of Medicine shows that near 100,000 people die each year from medical errors. Another report indicates that the FDA has “no quality control system” to detect perilous side effects from prescription drugs.
The Patients’ Book was written by two patients who have had extensive experience with hospitals and doctors, and who have spent years talking to doctors and other patients. It is calculated to help you to find the best treatments from an imperfect medical system. We give you advice on how to get a diagnosis and what to do after you have it. We show you how to research your illness and how to build your “medical buddy” support team — both crucial elements in your survival. Real patients’ tales will warn you hostile to specific dangers, give you courage, and fill your spirit.
Written in a clear, undemanding style, The Patients’ Book is an invaluable resource for patients, their medical buddies, friends, and families.

This is the ultimate self-help book and a perfect gift for a supporter or loved one facing a scary medical diagnosis. Both my mother and my step-mother have had major surgeries. And I know that both have been intimidated by the medical field as a whole. Nothing empowers like in rank and that is what this book is about. Empowering the patient to have control and understanding of their diagnosis by asking the aptly questions and then questioning those answers even further to their satisfaction.

This book is all about being a smart health consumer. It discussion about the crushing mysteries of illness but also gives you excellent questions to question of doctors to speed recovery/treatment. The content of Hartman and McCray’s book helps us to empathize with those who are tackling the health care system and raises our hackles with the inefficiencies of it. This book also gives solutions about the health care system and how our parents, friends and partners can effectively operate within that system. I give it five stars.
