The most vital thing to remember in sleep training is that you must really choose a strategy that fits your baby’s personality. This was not it.
Once our infant daughter was able to place herself back to sleep at night (3-4 months), we sought after to try sleep-training as we were having difficulty with her naps and sleeping during the night. During naptime, she would not sleep anywhere but our arms. This was a sleep association that we made, by the side of with a addiction on a pacifier that would fall out of her mouth at night – causing her to wake at night. We didn’t know how to break her of these two things and didn’t reckon that a “weep-it-out” solution was for us.
Our daughter is an simple-going and pleased child that just needed a tweak in her sleeping habits. So we read up on all of the authors and strategies and bought the Pantley book. Much of what’s in the book is pretty clear and undemanding. Personally, I reckon the author may possibly have slimmed the book down even further by eliminating the extraneous dialogue and focusing on the core essentials of the book.
In essence, the book suggests to place the child on a fixed sleep routine; which we were doing to start with. No matter which theory you ascribe to, doctors all suggest that you have consistent routines. So we continued the routines consistently and after 3 weeks of constant day-night wakings and screaming from our daughter, we resolute to go on. It certainly wasn’t from a lack of trying; we followed her suggestions closely. We were sleepless, cranky, and the baby was not any better.
We resolute to go with Ferber. What we later learned is that she is a tension releaser; where she will weep and then fall asleep. We had seen it before, but failed to place 2+2 together. Ferber’s progressive checks, where you go into reassure the baby that you are still there in lengthening time intervals worked for us. It was hard to hear our sweet child scream, but worked for us in the end. It’s not perfect, but she sleeps near 10-12 hours a night. Naps are a bit harder.
The Pantley method did not work for us; but, I may possibly see it working for a child that increases their energy by crying. In this case, the child once they have ongoing crying will just increase in volume and intensity, more and more.
Excellent Luck!

The Kindle edition is gone sentences-I’ve counted 4 paragraphs that end in a semicolon or mid-phrase, and I’m only 17% of the way through the book. I reported the problem to the content division of Kindle, but you may want to buy a hard copy of the book in the meantime.

Recently I was given the opportunity to review the newly released book by Elizabeth Pantley, The No-Weep Nap Solution Book. I have been having issues in getting my 4 year ancient to sleep during the day because she wants to be all grown up but really she needs to take naps or else she gets extremely cranky. Well I ongoing to read this book the day that I received it and have just finished the book. I like how Elizabeth puts everything and every solution into an simple way to get the kids to sleep. She has all sorts of ways to try different ways to get the kids to sleep.
This book is honestly hot off the press and I was very lucky in getting a signed copy from Elizabeth to review. You might reckon that there is nothing out there to help you in getting your child to sleep better during the day but have no dread because Elizabeth’s new book has those solutions for you. There is lots of solutions for every age out there and it honestly works too. It had taken about three different trys to get Olivia to take a nap but now that we have a routine for the weekends then it’s not a problem on the nap time. Even if its only a small nap for about an hour it’s still better than dealing with a very cranky 4 year ancient. I highly suggest reading this book The No-Weep Nap Solution Book if you want to get help for those issues that maybe you and your child are facing now with nap time. You might be surprised that this book can be a life saver for you as well. Elizabeth Pantley also has many other No-Weep Solution books that you might also be willing to try as well. Her work is very helpful and as a mother of 4 she uses her ways and her solutions as well as other parents solutions as well.
