I had checked this book out from my local library but liked so many of the recipes that I resolute to buy it. I have tried the Turkey Sloppy Joes & the Chicken Spaghetti, and when I go off my vegan detox diet (after I return from my overseas vacation), I plot to make one of the crab dishes as well as the Sweet Potato Pound Cake, Key Lime Pie (yes, I do have a sweet tooth), and some other capon dishes (I don’t do pork at all and very seldom eat beef, seafood, or game meats). I was very pleased with the recipes I’ve tried already – though they do take a fantastic deal of preparation – as they were flavorful, filling, and relatively simple to make. I urge this cookbook for anyone with diabetes who grew up on Soul Food and feel that they might be gone out when given their diagnosis. My mother was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes several years ago, and I’m trying to get her to re-learn how to cook Soul Food faves, as well as re-train her taste buds to accept new dishes – like the recipes in this book.

I recently bought this book and have tried a number of recipes in it. I realize lots of people have different palates. After the first few, I figured perhaps it was just me, but after a number of them, now I’m disappointed.
I expected tastier food than is prepared if I follow the recipes the way they’re written.

I like to cook and eat. It’s wonderful that I can now prepare healthy and habitual fare for my family without worry over stout and salt. Thanks ladies!
