The book was pricey at my school’s bookstore and I regret not buying it from here. It may be called the small BROWN book but mine is purple and I have an older version which is gray…go figure!!!

The layout of this book is very weird, rendering it hard to use. Only a summary Table of Contents appears at the beginning of the book. Worse, it is split over two facing pages–that is, the Table of Contents is presented as one page with the book binding splitting the page in the middle. And, though the book is organized by numbered sections, the section numbers (incredibly) do not appear in the summary Table of Contents. There is a detailed Table of Contents, but it doesn’t appear until the literal end of the book. It spans the last page and the surrounded by back cover and is frequently hidden by a fold-in book flap (now that’s handy). Of course, this also means that the index is not really at the end of the book, as you unwisely might have expected; it preceeds that detailed Table of Contents.
It is a lot of work to use this book. The content may be excellent, but if you’re looking for guidance on something specific, you’re going to have to dig to find it. A guide should be simple to use, not a chore, in and of itself.

The Small, Brown Essential Handbook for Writers is a helpful guide for grammar, style, punctuation, and other writers’ needs. The plastic binding makes the book simple to manage when referencing and editing your work.
It isn’t everlastingly as detailed as a novelist might like on usage, but if you have a strong handle on usage, then this shouldn’t be a problem.
The book is small and compact, so it doesn’t take up a lot of shelf space, but it is full of helpful in rank. It’s also fantastic as a novelist’s traveling companion. In rank is quick and simple to find. I urge maintenance this one nearby when proofreading and editing one’s work.

I bought this book for a class, but it finished up being on of the best citation guide-books I’ve ever been told to buy. It’s small so it’s really super simple to carry to class and the binding is spiral so you can easily flip to page and it will stay flat on a table for simple referencing when writing a report or a paper. Simple indexes and many, MANY examples for each style of citation.

Honestly, this is one of the greatest books ever. I use it nearly daily for Ashford Universirty. It helps me with making any corrections for essays. Also, it tells you in detail in the form you are writing in. This book is fantastic for any student’s writing ability.
