The author relies on her own experiences and anecdotes from other pet owners. There is very small if any scientific evidence to back up her claims. Some of her criticisms of conventional veterinary care are very out dated, and she seems unaware of recent developments and improvements in vet technology and treatments. If people judge her claims that vaccines are not effective, then their pets’ health may well suffer.

I gave it one star because the English was decently written. The knowledge it conveyed was idiotic. There were fascinating anecdotes such as saving her afghans with a local herb even as she was traveling, but small science. She mentions veterinarians and modern chemistry with disdain, claiming a respect for canines. In particular, when discussing fevers, she maintains that the dog knows best and it isn’t apt to force feed the dog the way [mean - editor's comment] veterinarians do. Yet neither does she advocate letting the dog choose when it should eat when it is sick, which is what I would guess if she truly respected dogs.
I kept trying to read this book, thought each time that it couldn’t possibly be as useless as I remembered, and each time I place it down in disgust. There are other books out there that deal with excellent common sense care and don’t insult your, or your dog’s, intelligence. Buy those, and ignore Juliette De Bairacli Levy’s treatise on anecdotes.

I would NOT rely on this book for the care and feeding of your dog or cat. Even as some of the in rank is fantastic, like the raw food diet, she also really recommends things like grapes, grape juice and onions for your dog… KNOWN toxcins to dogs.
I have no thought from where she got her in rank, she lists no references, no studies, no scientific proof of anything, just claims of private use and various folklore or anecdotes. I do know as a holistic health professional this book is WRONG and down aptly perilous! Don’t take my word for it… just question any vet.
If you are a novice in the world of natural health and herbalism, this is NOT the book with which to start!

Well this book is mainly only for the use for dogs. I was thought it’s be more like a herbal/ailment glossary. You know, about what’s incorrect with your pet and what herb to use for it. It does have that in the book but very small and it’s got more literature in it than I had sought after.
