My mother was diagnosed with diabetes about fifteen years ago. When I was diagnosed recently, I ongoing with a few advantages over most. I was prepared to accept that I had a disease that I knew was appearance. I knew what diabetes was, what it meant, and the basics of how to deal with it. Unfortunately, my mother never really tried to control her diabetes. Rather than watching her diet, she chose to let it progress to the top where she has to take medicine to control it. I can’t turn to her for advice on my eating habits. Can I have a milkshake with lunch? How does fruit compare to candy? Does this mean no more morning hot chocolate?! I was about ready to just declare myself 100% sugar free and get it over with. But then a supporter showed me this book. I now know that with my exercise routine and some caution, I can have that milkshake. Fruit is better but I can’t eat a ten-gallon bucket’s worth. A small bit of morning hot chocolate will really help me feel better (avoiding hypoglycemia). So glad I bought this book.

Having been diagnosed with diabetes recently at a local clinic but unable to meet with a dietitian, I was hoping this book would help guide me in making a diet/meal plot for myself. It had a lot of excellent in rank and tips that will certainly be helpful, but I was hoping for more. I was hoping it would guide me through the administer of designing a customized plot. It wasn’t at all like this. On top of that, it was extremely repetitive. Excellent, just not what I was expecting from the title and product description.

I skimmed through the book when I first received it, and was not impressed. But on re-reading and re-re-reading, and paying more attention to what the author has to say, I did find it helpful. I am newly diagnosed with diabetes and have much to learn. This book includes a lot of matter-of-fact suggestions. I’m still re-re-reading, dog-earing sections for later reference.

This is a very excellent book for someone like me who is pre-diabetic. I haven’t read the book all the way throught yet, that can be overwhelming, but I look at different sections as I find more questions that I want answered. So far, I am very pleased with this book and I highly urge it for anyone who is diabetic or pre-diabetic.
