This book is light enough to carry with you in your white coat, and not too burdensome in terms of details. As with all Recall books this is written in question and resolution format which works better for some people than for others. If you are interested in going into surgery, or feel that you like to have massive quantities of relevant knowledge at hand at all times during your rotations I would urge instead the Mount Reid handbook which is packed with much more in rank and has a better index all for about the same consequence. But for those students who wish to just learn the basics necessary to do well in surgery this book works well and highlights all of the essential in rank needed on the wards and in the shelf exam.

probably it is more helpful when you’re NOT plotting to specialize in surgery because it helps you grasp the essentials of surgery without extensive time consumption ..

I found the OR to be an nearly laughable game once I ongoing reading Recall. The attendings would question the exact questions in Recall in nearly every case with very few exceptions. Knowing what case you are about go into and taking the 10 mins or so to read the relevant chapter or section in Recall made answering those questions very simple.
I never tried to read Recall from cover to cover. Doing so would be painfully trying as it is truly just a list of high yield facts with very small interpretation or explanation.
Recall is organized nearly procedures / diagnosis and as such is of limited use as a reference for expanding a differential diagnosis in a case write up.
It is, but, an absolutely invaluable tool for surviving the OR.
