I mainly got this book for the salary statistics, which totaled about two sentences in the book. You can find more, better, and less-dated in rank for free on the internet.

This book is filled with insanely evident “insights” such as
–consider commuting to school rather than living on campus to save money and
–talk with involved physician assistants to learn more.
Don’t waste your money unless you need the evident drawn out in torturous detail.

If you are curious about the physician assistant profession, this book takes you through the life of a PA. This walks you through the profession from the view of a student and professionals in a variety of different fields.

This is a small, simple overview of the PA profession that is worth the used book price. It reads more like a long magazine article than a book, for some reason. Anyone needing a nice quick introduction to the job will be satisfied with this book, although it’s out of date. The many people interviewed seem to all be from Chicago, which is unusual, and also most got their education several years ago when there were literally dozens of different ways to become a PA. Modern day applicants will find many of the loosey-goosey programs of the past are now habitual masters programs just like any other. The ancient “I worked with a doctor for a few years and they let me sit for the boards” type of tale is history, nothing more. Most of the content is just published questionnaires and private small essays from respondents, without commentary or context by the author who seems to have no real private knowledge of the profession. He might as well have been writing about the history of the bicycle or how air conditioning has changed our lives. But if you are just starting out and need a quick look at the job, this isn’t a terrible place to start.
