I like this book. Compared to Nicolaou’s Classics this is a coffee table book. It is gorgeous in its presentation, with a superfluity of pictures and artwork throughout. Each succinct chapter is exceedingly fascinating, with detailed historical accounts of the molecule and the personalities caught up.
Ultimately, this is why I like the book: the author’s have managed to bestow the people caught up in the discovery, and synthesis of molecules that have changed the world in an accessible way and in an artful format. My already intense interest in organic chemistry has multiplied after reading a link chapters. If you’re at all interested in the history of organic chemistry, especially if you’re a graduate student working with natural products, you’ll really delight in the book. If you can balance it, a chapter during a discourse is manageable.
