Horse lovers should know how heartless a bit is, and how many problems it causes. This book was a revelation to me. Even as I’d had fantastic rides with just a lead, I never realized how counter-productive a bit was. For more control, for a healthier horse, and for a better relationship with your horse, buy this book, read it, and buy some more for your friends. And lose that bit!

Dr. Cook piles argument upon argument, all meticulously supported by research and documentation, until it must become crystal clear to everyone that a bit hurts a horse, period. How far-reaching the consequences of this pain are to mind and body is truly shocking and really unexpected, but again his findings are well-supported. And the best thing, riding really works so much better without the bit! Tossing the bit was the best thing I ever did. And yes, there are alternatives that work just as well or better for controlling your horse. Go get it!
