Let Me Listen to Your Heart
Let Me Listen to Your Heart Books
Product Description
Let Me Listen to Your heart is a collection of 42 writings-essays, poems and tales-by medical students from Columbia and Rochester that are written as a required part of their rotations in primary care internal medicine in the clinics and offices of primary care physicians at Bassett Healthcare based in Cooperstown, New York. These are often their first meaningful exposures to patients and they write pathetically of their insecurities and rewards, the privilege of intimate contact with strangers, the lessons learned below the tutelage of experienced, dedicated mentors. In the 42 pieces students write on a variety of subjects -all stimulated by the training experience. The lessons of the value of listening, of empathy and of support to the dying are among the issues perfectly described.

I am a second year medical student, halfway through a year filled with hours and hours of lectures, labs, studying, lectures, small groups and then more studying. This book was a much needed reminder of why we all got ourselves into this field–people and the tales they have to tell us.
Let Me Listen is a collection of reflections by medical students as they completed a primary care rotation in Cooperstown, NY. All students on the rotation are required to write about their experiences, and this book is a compilation of the best pieces.
I wholeheartedly urge this book to any medical student. It will be just the thing to cure those highlighter blues! I also urge it to those caught up in medical education. I reckon it would be helpful for all of us to record our experiences with patients from time to time.
This collection of essays and poems was a pleasure to read and I look forward to picking up this book again and again whenever I need a break from the second year deluge of in rank.

As a involved physician, I see all too many signs of the decline of medical care in our people. This collection of writings by medical students goes a long way towards restoring my faith in the next generation of physicians. Nicely edited and organized, Let Me Listen To Your Heart gives hope that in our ever-busier world, young physicians are learning more than how to deal with insurance companies and how to do defensive medicine. Patients as well as every involved physician should read this book.

this collection of writings by medical students is a touching collection of “amateur” writing at its very best! it is a tender glimpse into the human side of medicine — to be loved by medical and nonmedical readers alike. a tribute to the emotions and humanity of medicine – refreshing and inspiring.
