This book isn’t really a ‘tale’. It’s just simply showing a administer of kids making an appointment and then going to the dentist. There’s no really exciting part or anything, but it would be a excellent book to show children who get nervous in new situations. Especially kids with autism or other behavior disorders. It gives them each step to the administer that they can follow.

It’s a excellent thought to start early so when that time comes to go to the dentist, they will be more willing to sit there just long enough to complete the checkup.

First of all: I got this book from Scholastic through my child’s preschool in Feb 2008 for maybe $8 by the side of with another book about going to the dentist. These $60 some prices are RIDICULOUS and that is why I am posting. The book in and of itself is fantastic: a brother and sister go to the dentist. The sister has her teeth checked and cleaned; all is fine. The brother has a hollow space that needs to be filled and the book clarifies that administer and shows him getting the filling. It discussion briefly about excellent and terrible foods for teeth. My 3-year ancient daughter sought after to read it many times. But don’t, please don’t spend $60 for it!!! Maybe $10 absolute max for paperback – beyond that, NOT worth it no matter how excellent it is. What is going through these sellers’ minds?

Although this book gives a excellent chronology of what happens at the dentist, I found it cold and distant. Neither child’s feelings are addressed. I was expecting a book that might describe how amusing it feels to have someone poking nearly in your mouth, what the mouthwash tastes like or how wierd it is to go so far back in the chair. And there is absolutely no mention that either child might be nervous or frightened. Instead it’s just a list of statements. The older child needs a filling. Come on, HOW SCARY IS THAT? And yet the kid doesn’t even blink.
This book is neither private nor engaging.
If I had known it was like this I wouldn’t have bought it.

I got this book for my son (he was 2 1/2 yr. at the time) so he would be prepared for the dentist when we went. He loved the book and sought after to read it over AND over, and loved finding the duck that is hidden in some of the pages. But it came SO helpful when my son cut his lip open and he had to go to the ER to get stiches. Before we left I grabbed this book to read even as we were there because I had a feeling he would need stiches and we would talk about the part in the book when the boy gets a shot. It was SO helpful in trying to clarify to our son what he needed to guess and he understood! My son is now 3 and still questions to read this book! I highly urge it!
