I can’t converse in highly enough of this book or its authors. This is a very well-written, well-organized explanation of some very advanced epidemiologic concepts. I use it to study for exams and as a reference for my own studies.

He introduces a lot of his own thought/thoughts which are not now acceptable by any references/texts on epidemiology. I bought it because it was a required text by my course instructor. Interaction/puzzling section confused me a lot, since what he wrote in the previous section was not compatible with what was written in the next even though both are on the same topics.

This book “Epidemiology Beyond the Basics” is a excellent book for persons wanting to go on from the basic Epidemiology, hence the title. But, I found it a bit pricy so resolute to get a second hand book. Well nearly 4 weeks after ordering the book through Amazon, it arrived. Report has it that someone at Amazon wants me to get into “Volcanology” because this is the book that arrived! How can one confuse Volcanology with Epidemiology? I mean, really! So I bought a new “Epidemiology Beyond the Basics” from one of Amazon’s rivals and it arrived within a few days. NEVER AGAIN am I purchasing books from Amazon!!!!

I am astounded at the excellent reviews of this textbook. The authors jump from topic to topic in a non-systematic way. The writing is filled with overlong sentences, semicolons, and dependent clauses, all of which tend to confuse rather than clarify. I am an MD and am studying in an MPH progam in a second semester advanced epidemiology course with this book as a required text. It is possible to get through this book with substantial effort. The authors may possibly stand to take a course themselves in academic writing.
