I’ve not compulsory this text to my undergrad nursing students as a valuable quick reference. It’s a really handy manual for taking to acute medicine clinical practicum as it gives a quick but solid overview of commonly encountered conditions. For each disease it includes a brief physio/patho description, possible causes, gender, ethnic and lifespan considerations, necessary assessment, nursing dx and collaborative as well as independent interventions, documentation guidelines, and DRG and LOS categories. It gives a nice ‘heads up’ for students and new nurses in the ‘pharmacological highlights’ and ‘diagnostic highlights’ to aid in anticipating care needs as well as further research needs. It’s a fantastic find!

This book helped me more than any other text book during nursing school. It takes a disease or disorder and breaks it down to the nuts and bolts. With every disease you get: a brief description of what it is, it’s causes, gender and life span considerations, what to assess, primary nursing diagnosis, plotting of care, common drugs used, what labs to look for, discharge guidelines, and what to document. This is all done in less than six pages on most diseases. This book saved me a tremendous quantity of time, and I still use it in my nursing do today. This book was my life line in nursing school, and I wouldn’t have made it through without it. You won’t regret getting this book. It can be a life saver.
