This run of dictionaries provides comprehensive, up-to-date definitions in each theme. They are fully thwart-referenced. The dictionaries arose out of the author’s dissatisfaction with existing works which arc incomplete, and either require an in depth knowledge of psychology to make use of them, or are written only for the beginner. Definitions in these dictionaries are aimed at the level of knowledge of the reader, so that basic terms are clarified as though to a novice, even as more complex terms are aimed at readers with an assumed greater level of knowledge (although by use of the thwart-references provided a more basic explanation can ordinarily be found). The definitions are in greater depth, and are thwart-referenced to a greater extent, than other dictionaries. The first three volumes in the run cover developmental and cognitive psychology and psychological testing, assessment and treatment. A complete dictionary of psychology will be published in 1994. This dictionary provides over 2000 definitions of key terms in the field of developmental psychology (including aging). In addition to clear and comprehensive definitions of the terms, it also provides accounts of key experiments and theories, and psychometric and other tests of psychological development.
