It is rare to find a text book that is not a chore to read, but this is one of them! The authors write in a very engaging manner, and the frequent bursts of humor make reading it a real pleasure. It takes readers through all the steps of interviewing, at a perfect pace, so that readers are not overwhelmed with in rank, but are able to absorb it, and develop their skills gradually. It also discusses in depth how to work with particular populations, including young clients, culturally diverse clients, and couples. The skills and techniques are discussed in a way that is is simple for readers to grasp and apply to their work. I would highly urge this book for all students in the helping professions field. It is the most helpful book I read during graduate school and I will everlastingly refer back to it throughout my career.
