Jeff Wells works in a mixed do where he treats both farm animals and house pets, with the occasional exotic thrown in. Among the many uplifting, life-altering, life-threatening, and hilarious episodes Wells relates are tales featuring a turkey attack, porcupine-quill covered terriers, a pregnant male cat, a heavy-metal Chihuahua with road burn, an ornery pygmy donkey, a giant hog, a constipated cow, and many others.

My 10-year ancient likes this book. Some of the words and theme matter are too mature for her level of reading. But, she skips over the parts she doesn’t know. She painstakingly enjoys the book. She wants to become a veterinarian-so this book helps her presume what it is like. I gave her 3 or 4 veterinarian books for Christmas-but this is the one she has commented about the most.

Simple, entertaining small tales for all animal lovers. Some so humorous they result in tears to the eyes even on the tenth rereading. Wonderfully written.

This book was given to my daughter, a vet student, for Christmas. She read a chapter aloud she particularly liked nearly the holiday fire and everyone in the house was hooked…the next two days the entire book was read to the entire family who roared with laughter as we may possibly relate many of Dr Wells tales to our small farm life – and watching my vet student daughter delight in the craziness he experienced as ‘the new guy’.
A must read for all who have pets – farmers with livestock – vet students – parents of vet students – and vets themselves!!!!!!
I wish I may possibly write to Dr Wells to tell him how much my entire family from age 11 to 58 loved his tales, cover to cover……

I really loved reading this wonderful collection of animal anecdotes full of heart and humor. Having worked in the veterinary field myself, I recognized a few of the absurd situations one finds oneself when caring for our beloved animals and may possibly laugh and weep by the side of with the book. Dr. Wells does a terrific job of giving those scenes memorable and colorful description. I would urge this book to any animal lover and particularly to anyone who has ever dreamed of apt a vet. It’s a wonderful read and leaves you wanting more…
